Interviewing, Selection, and Recruitment Program
 
    Are your Managers/Supervisors well-trained on establishing the selection criteria to evaluate and hire the best candidate?  Do they ask relevant/open-ended questions to acquire information consistent with the selection criteria?  Do they ask or not ask questions of certain groups of people that could be viewed as showing a preference or be discriminatory?
 
    When done well, the interview can provide a wealth of valid, accurate information so that the Hiring Manager can make the best hiring decision.  When done poorly, an interview can be misleading, offensive, or even, illegal!  Unfortunately, many Managers and Supervisors are poorly trained in establishing sound job related selection criteria and asking appropriate open-ended interview questions.
 
How BestSelect Works
 
    The BestSelect Program trains Hiring Managers/Supervisors to effectively interview, evaluate, select, and hire the candidate that best matches the selection criteria and the organization.  Some of the specific goals for the program are to train Managers/Supervisors in the following area:
  • To provide information and training on how to better define the position in terms of important selection criteria:  personal qualities/characteristics, achievements/goals, abilities/aptitudes, skills/qualifications, interests/passions, and rewards/benefits.
  • To reduce the subjective and increase the objective reasons for selecting the candidate that best matches the position.
  • To become more knowledgeable and comfortable with the interviewing and selection process.
  • To insure that questions and comments made during the interview are consistent with both the letter and spirit of the laws concerning employment practices.
  • To provide information and training on how to more effectively recruit the desired candidate by promoting the position, organization and department.
  • To reinforce a philosophy that all candidates should be treated with respect and dignity and be viewed as a valued customer.
